Dishcovery

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Is Dishcovery free?

Yes, Dishcovery is completely free. No sign-up, no payment, no hidden charges. We display Google AdSense advertisements to support the service.

Q2. How many Korean dishes are in the database?

Currently 73 carefully curated Korean dishes across 16 categories: soups, stews, BBQ, grilled, noodles, street food, rice bowls, fried chicken, stir-fries, pancakes, dumplings, and Korean-style Chinese/Japanese dishes. The database is updated periodically as we add new dishes.

Q3. Do you save my quiz answers?

No. All quiz answers are processed in your browser and never sent to any server. If you want to redo the quiz with different answers, just click "Start Over".

Q4. How accurate is the allergy filter?

We label the main allergens for each dish (pork, beef, seafood, gluten, dairy, egg, peanut, soy, sesame, and chicken). However, real restaurants may prepare dishes with hidden ingredients. If you have severe allergies, always confirm ingredients with the restaurant before ordering. Our information is a starting point, not a medical guarantee.

Q5. I only got spicy dishes — why?

The algorithm matches what you input. If your flavor profile emphasized "spicy", most results will be spicy. To avoid this, set spicy to 0 or 1, and add "spicy" to your disliked tastes. Korean cuisine has many mild dishes — you just need to tell the quiz you want them.

Q6. Is Dishcovery available on mobile?

Yes. Dishcovery works on any web browser — smartphone, tablet, or desktop. No app installation required.

Q7. Where can I find these dishes in Seoul?

Most dishes are widely available in Seoul, but some are regional specialties. For those, you'll need to visit specific neighborhoods or areas. We recommend using Naver Maps or KakaoMap (popular Korean apps) to search for the Korean name of each dish in your neighborhood.

Q8. Can I get recipe links?

Yes. After you receive a recommendation, you can click the YouTube link to search for recipes of that dish. We link to YouTube search rather than specific videos so you can pick from multiple creators.

Q9. Are all dishes traditional Korean?

Most are, but we also include Korean-Chinese (jajangmyeon, tangsuyuk) and Korean-Japanese (kimbap, donkatsu) dishes. These evolved inside Korea and are considered part of Korean food culture, even though they have Chinese/Japanese origins.

Q10. I don't like any of the recommendations. What do I do?

Try adjusting your inputs slightly. Change the temperature range, or swap "soup: yes" to "soup: no". Small tweaks often produce completely different results. You can also check the 2nd and 3rd match, not just the top one.

Q11. Can I suggest a new dish?

Yes! Email us at betterly27@gmail.com with your suggestion. We add dishes to future updates based on user feedback.

Q12. Is Dishcovery available in languages other than English?

Currently Dishcovery is English-only. For Korean-language Korean food recommendations, we have a sister service: immat.kr. It's targeted at Korean-speaking users and has a slightly different database.
